How to install the car led star light (DIY)
Installing car star lights (also known as starlight headliners) is a simple DIY project that can add a stylish and cozy atmosphere to your car interior. This guide applies to most fiber optic car star lights kits, suitable for all car models. Please prepare the necessary tools and follow the steps carefully to ensure safe and correct installation.
Step 1: Prepare the Car Interior
First, clean the car ceiling (where you want to install the star lights) with an alcohol wipe to remove dust, oil and dirt. This will help the fiber optic cables stay in place and ensure a neat installation. Then, use the pry tool to gently remove the ceiling trim (if needed) to access the inner space of the ceiling; be careful not to break the clips on the trim.
Step 2: Install the Light Source Box
The light source box is the core of the star lights, which provides power and light for the fiber optic cables. Choose a hidden and well-ventilated location to install it, such as under the car seat, in the trunk or inside the ceiling (avoid direct sunlight and high-temperature areas like near the engine).
Fix the light source box with double-sided adhesive tape or screws (use a drill if necessary). Ensure it is firmly installed and will not shake during car driving. Then, connect the power adapter of the light source box to the car’s 12V power supply (you can connect it to the cigarette lighter socket or the car’s internal wiring; if connecting to the internal wiring, it is recommended to use a professional wire connector to avoid loose connections).
Step 3: Arrange the Fiber Optic Cables
Take the fiber optic cables out of the kit and cut them to the appropriate length according to the size of your car ceiling (leave a little extra length to avoid insufficient length). Then, thread the fiber optic cables through the inner space of the ceiling, and arrange them evenly according to your desired star pattern (you can draw a simple pattern on the ceiling in advance for reference).
Make sure the fiber optic cables are not tangled or bent sharply; keep them as straight as possible to ensure uniform light transmission. Use cable ties to fix the cables to the ceiling frame to prevent them from moving.
Step 4: Install the Star Light Points
Gently pierce the top of each fiber optic cable through the car ceiling fabric (use a small needle if needed, be careful not to damage the fabric). The exposed part of the fiber optic cable should be about 1-2mm (too long will affect the appearance, too short will reduce the light brightness).
Arrange the star light points evenly or according to your desired pattern (such as constellations). After installing all fiber optic cables, press the ceiling fabric gently to make the star points neat and flat.
Step 5: Connect and Test the Star Lights
Connect all the fiber optic cables to the light source box (ensure the connections are tight, loose connections will cause dim light or no light). Then, reconnect the car battery and turn on the car power.
Use the remote control to turn on the star lights, and check if all star points are bright and uniform. Test the functions (such as color change, brightness adjustment, twinkling mode) to ensure they work normally. If some star points are dim or not lit, check the connections of the fiber optic cables and adjust them.
Step 6: Finish the Installation
After confirming that the star lights work normally, re-install the ceiling trim (if you removed it) and press it firmly to ensure it is fixed in place. Arrange the excess fiber optic cables and power wires neatly, and fix them with cable ties to avoid affecting the car’s internal space or driving safety.
